Nancy Lieberman
Basketball Hall of Famer, Coach, Commentator
Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman is an accomplished basketball player, coach, two-time Olympian, broadcaster, and writer, and is easily one of the most recognized individuals in the history of women’s basketball. A native of Queens, New York, Lieberman played hoops on the rough-and-tumble Harlem courts, and developed a tough style of basketball that led her on one of the most distinguished careers ever. In high school, she established herself as one of the top women’s basketball players in the country by earning one of only 12 spots on the USA National Team. Lieberman played on winning world championship and Olympic teams. At the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, she became the youngest basketball player in Olympic history to win a silver medal at the age of 18. Lieberman was elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame as a player in 1996 and to the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 1999. Lieberman has provided commentary for ABC, ESPN, NBC, NBA-TV, and is a contributing writer to several national newspapers. She is currently a full-time analyst with ESPN for men’s and women’s college basketball and both the men’s (NBA) and women’s (WNBA) development leagues. During the summer, she hosts and coaches basketball camps for girls and boys, and is heavily involved with Special Olympics and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation’s “Race for the Cure” in Plano, Texas, a support group for victims of breast cancer.
